@Nickccann We are planning a more comprehensive look at preparation, probably two or three videos.

  2. Nickccann says:

I really like this video I hope you do a video about the food you bring cruising, how you store it. and where you store it before leaving Hawaii. your videos are very awesome I’ve learned a lot from you. Keep it up.

An interesting and informative vid. Thanks for sharing. By all means enjoy the cigar, no criticism from me.

  5. vega1860 says:

@Moralvorstellung7 Not that it is at all relevant but Chuck retired on April 30, 2007 and celebrated his 58th birthday at sea in June of that year. He was a sales and marketing exec in the motorcycle industry.

    Delightful video.

@AdmiralScoti thanks for the helpful info

  8. vega1860 says:

@AdmiralScoti Yes. The SH Matrix 2100 incorporates the AIS receiver with the VHF radio. It hooks up just like any other VHF and uses the same standard antennae. The unit must be connected to a GPS receiver of some sort for position data (We use a Garmin Oregon mounted next to the radio inside the cabin) and you will have to register for a MMSI number which you can easily do on the BoatUS web site.

  9. AdmiralScoti says:

@vega1860 Just curious does the AIS come included with the radio or do you have to have addition equipment to add AIS into its display

  10. vega1860 says:

@AdmiralScoti Yes it is. We aren’t particularly fond of electronic gadgets but this is one we highly recommend. We found the AIS receiver invaluable and the position display on the radio very handy.

  11. AdmiralScoti says:

Hey Theres the Standard Horizon 2100 good radio btw.. ;)

@mikeybgoode Metal cans may be legally dumped at sea beyond 12 miles from the nearest land. We open both ends and toss them overboard. Cans with plastic liners, however, must be retained on board for disposal ashore. We open both ends and smash them flat for easier storage,

  13. mikeybgoode says:

what do you do with the cans after? do you carry a crusher?

A plan is only as good until it meets the enemy.

I sure have enjoyed the videos, wishing the both of you Fair Winds and Calm Sees.

So what day do you think you will get underway? oh I’m ToppDogg on Sailnet if we ever chat.

Enjoy the trip and maybe we’ll see you two floating around in Alaska this summer.

  18. vega1860 says:

@sqrqlq We use powdered milk and real butter although it is O.K. with just water. Chuck isn’t fussy when he is sick.

  19. sqrqlq says:

how do you make mac&cheese without milk and butter?

@tomperanteau Well Tom, at this point it looks like we will not stop between the Golden Gate and the Alenuihaha channel. But you know what I always say about plans. Next time around if you are still in port.

  23. blueskyredkite says:

You’ll get no criticism from me for the cigar, but perhaps you should come through the canal to the Atlantic side, I hear there’s a little island just south of Miami where they make some great cigars. ;-)

Looking forward to your postings from Alaska.

  24. tomperanteau says:

Hey, Vega, as you might remember from the Sailnet forums, we’re down south towards San Pedro. If you so decide, and have time, when you’re down here, look us up and we’ll buy you a draft. Perhaps as the Chowder Barge, if you can stand the rustic atmosphere. We, although with our professional exterior, prefer it, as it is a more honest way of life.

  25. MsTemptation says:

Can you add xylitol to this mixture???
